Accommodation in Finland
UNIQUE AND ECOLOGICAL ACCOMMODATION IN FINLAND
In Finland we in Ekomatkaajat suggest travellers to experience our beautiful country by sleeping in a hammock instead of the 5 star hotel. Tentsile Experience Camps are located in unique destinations, surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty.
One of the Tentsile Experience Camps is located near the Finland’s capital city Helsinki at the entrance of Nuuksio National Park and close to Haltia – The Finnish Nature Centre in Espoo. Visitors can take a morning swim, enjoy traditional Finnish Sauna, rent kayak or SUP board for exploring in Lake Pitkäjärvi’s pure waters, then sleep under the bright night sky clear of light pollution.
One of the Tentsile Experience Camps is located in Vallisaari, Helsinki. The island of Vallisaari is located next to Suomenlinna. Vallisaari is located 20 minute ferry ride away from Helsinki market place. Today Vallisaari is a beautiful old fortress island with unique nature.
Kasnäs island is a port to Archipelago Sea National Park. Kasnäs is a sailing, outdoor and archipelago hub, where you can make day trips to Archipelago or island hopping.
Skytent Ecocamp Rosala is located in the stunning scenery of the outer archipelago. Hitis and Rosala have the largest permanent settlement of the islands in the Kimito Island archipelago with no fixed road connection to the mainland. Hitis-Rosala, formerly called Kyrkosundsskär, is located on the old eastbound fairway that was used even before the Viking Age.
Skytent Ecocamp Taalintehdas is located in the natural taiga forest by the lake in 10 minutes walking distance from the Taalintehdas village. Finnish industrial history is strongly present in Dalsbruk. When you come to Dalsbruk via the main road you first encounter the old residential buildings and many outbuilding all with their foundations built of slag stones, then the homes of the lower paid workers and finally the harbour and industrial area where the oldest factory buildings can be found. The factory museum depicts the history of the village from the 17th century.
Skytent Ecocamp Högsåra is located in Archipelago Sea National Park‘s the most beautiful beach, Sandvik. Beach is sheltered and pristine sand beach, which is on the idyllic island of Högsåra. Sandvik is one of the most spectacular spots in the National Park and is located on the west coast of Högsåra island and therefore has a magnificent sun sets.
Verla is a UNESCO World Heritage site that captures an interesting phase of development in Finland’s history. In Verla you can spend a night or more in your own sleeping bag in a tent that hangs between two trees like a hammock.
We also offer tree tent accomodation by individual companies.
Kommee Kurki is located next to lake Hanhijärvi in Tampere Region. The restful location of the Tree Tent Kommee Kurki is near a bird lake, on the border of a nature reserve in a privat forest.
Other unique option is accommodation in places without a trace of human influence and close to fragile arctic nature. You can view the Northern lights or Midnight sun by sleeping in an AuroraHut, in close proximity to pure nature, outside of manmade light pollution and fuss.
Finland’s geography, culture, and infrastructure make it the best place to see the Northern Lights. It’s common to have conditions to see the Aurora 200 nights per year. You might see it every night for a week, or stay a month and not see it at all. September through March is a good time to try to see Northern Lights.
AuroraHut is registered as a houseboat, which creates limitless opportunities for eco-friendly tourism, on over hundred thousand lakes in Nordic countries alone, as moving and living in a boat is part of everyman’s rights in Nordic counties. In summer, AuroraHut floats on location without manmade infrastructure, with minimum effect on surrounding nature. In summer AuroraHut is scenic igloo boat, and in winter you can place AuroraHut on top of ice.

DO IT LIKE LOCALS – FOR AN EVENING ONLY OR FOR A FULL WEEKEND
Enjoy a three hour evening program in a Finnish home and enjoy a home-made dinner with the host or the family. The main purpose of this dinner is to allow you to experience pieces of the Finnish way of living. The dinner includes a salad or an appetizer, a main course and a dessert/coffee or tea, all according to the host’s favorite recipes.
Ready for an adventure? It begins when you start your way from your hotel to the host´s home. You receive an invitation to Finnish home including the information on how to reach the host´s home by public transport (or by a taxi, if you prefer). If you are using public transport your host will be waiting for you at the train/metro/tram station or bus stop nearest to his/her home according to the desired starting time. You both will probably be equally excited to meet each other, but the experience is worth every second! You will spend the weekend in a Finnish home with its residents. The weekend program includes spending time with the host family. This is one option of the host families:

VOLUNTEERING IN FINLAND
We want to encourage travellers to help animals and nature conservation also in Finland. You can help for example on a farm in Helsinki for half a day. This is a perfect way to combine holiday with meaningful moments with nature.
One brilliant option for volunteering in Finland is in an animal sanctuary Tuulispää, which is a retirement home and rescue shelter for farm animals. Founded in 2012, the sanctuary is currently the permanent home for more than 60 animals. The inhabitants include e.g. horses, cows, goats, chickens, rabbits and pigs. It is operated on a voluntary basis and it promotes environmental sustainability and veganism. Combine holiday with meaningful moments with animals.
For groups we can offer full program on request. Please send us the quotation of what you want to experience in Finland. Bookings for groups are made through travel agencies only.
